Bare River Queens
Patrick Wilson & the Bare River Queens tote an especial sound of traditional and alternative country, all the while drawing comparisons to the groove of The Band and spontaneity of Van Morrison in their live performances. Featuring their music around the trials and tribulations of rural life, front man and songwriter Patrick Wilson knows this first hand having originated from a Victorian surf-coast town where he worked tirelessly as an apprentice butcher. Wilson, now at the forefront of the thriving Melbourne Americana scene is continuing to make waves alongside his band of accomplished instrumentalists.
Originally performing as a solo musician around the Geelong/ Melbourne area for several years prior, The Bare River Queens formed within the halls of their music university over the shared intrigue of country music and its ability to completely tell a story through song. It was there that the group full of twang, nostalgia and the odd hint of 60s Roy Orbison “doo-wop” began.
Since the release of debut EP, ‘Ryan the Moth’, Wilson has graced the stages of Tamworth Country Music Festival 2013 as well as regional music and arts festivals, Spring Fling Festival 2014 and Birregurra Music and Arts 2015. Most noted, the band enjoyed a two night run opening for country royalty, The Bellamy Brothers on their 2014 Australian tour, with the Brothers acknowledging Wilson on his “thoughtful and diligent” song writing. Following this, their 2015 self-titled debut album has allowed the band recognition from seasoned Australian country musician, Bill Chambers.
“I heard Patrick Wilson sing for the first time in a small studio in Melbourne. His voice and his songs blew me away.”- Bill Chambers
